Montana to switch Essential Air Service carriers; Direct-to-Denver flights to end

Popular but unreliable direct flights from Havre and Lewistown to Denver will end this spring, after the state’s Essential Air Service Board voted Thursday to switch carriers.

Billings now will be the hub for all federally subsidized flights out of Havre, Glasgow, Lewistown, Wolf Point, Glendive, Miles City and Sidney.

The board, which has representatives from each of the seven communities served by the subsidized air service, recommended that the federal government award the $8 million contract to Gulf Stream Airlines, instead of current carrier Great Lakes Aviation.
