Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer to head The Council of State Governments

Gov. Brian Schweitzer http://governor.mt.gov/ will be sworn in Saturday as president of the Council of State Governments http://www.csg.org/ at a national meeting in Providence, R.I., for a one-year term.

Schweitzer said in a telephone interview he was asked if he would accept the job if offered, and he agreed. He wasn’t sure who had nominated him.

The Montana Democrat will succeed South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds, a Republican, as CSG president.

As president, Schweitzer will preside over this weekend’s meeting and another national meeting. The other major responsibility is to lead a council delegation on an international trip.

Schweitzer said he’ll use any contacts he makes through the Council of State Governments or any other organization to try to build the Montana economy.
