The Patriot Express Loan Initiative aims to help veterans finance small business dreams
After earning a master’s degree in management, Kelley Williams always thought about putting his education to work by starting a small business. But Williams, who works for the Montana National Guard, didn’t know when he would be able to do that.
That was until Williams and his wife, Jessica, saw property available at Custer Landing in Helena and visualized opening a coffee shop.
Their only foreseeable hurdle was obtaining the financing to launch the business.
Williams was told about the Small Business Administration’s Patriot Express Loan from a commander in the National Guard. He then scheduled an appointment with a Small Business Administration resource partner, SCORE – Counselors to America’s Small Businesses, which assisted the Williamses through the business planning process.
The Patriot Express Loan Initiative http://www.sba.gov/patriotexpress/ was launched in 2007.
