Idaho State University Accelerator Center to help company develop baggage screen system

An Idaho university is slated to help a Kentucky-based company develop a cargo and baggage screening system to improve the detection of dangerous materials, such as explosives.

Valley Forge Composite Technologies http://www.vlyf.com/ hopes to partner with Idaho State University Accelerator Center http://iac.isu.edu/ to develop the system, which the company plans to manufacture in Pocatello, Idaho.

The Covington, Ky.-based company says the THOR LVX scanning system uses gamma rays, instead of X-rays, and has a 99.9 percent detection rate.

Valley Forge vice president Keith McClellan says the company plans to first build a demo unit and if that is successful, manufacture the $8 million systems in eastern Idaho.
