Missoula Job Service – On the Job Training Grant Program – Also Available in Many Montana Communities

The OJT grant that the Missoula Job Service is offering to their local employers is also available through other Job Service offices in the state but not all. The following offices have the special OJT grant funding like Missoula: Hamilton, Kalispell, Libby, Polson, Thompson Falls, Anaconda, Bozeman, Butte, Helena, Livingston, Billings and Lewistown.

On-the-job training (OJT) is a training strategy that the Missoula Job Service can offer local employers and job seekers.

This strategy can be a critical tool in helping workers and communities during the current economic environment. OJT offers the opportunity to fill skilled positions while building organizational productivity as the participants learn job requirements. Even better, employers are reimbursed for costs associated with training new employees. An OJT arrangement can be the push needed to create job opportunities now.

Benefits to the Employer

* Reimbursement of up to 90% of employee wages paid during the training period for up to 6 months.

* Allows the employer to train according to the needs of their organization.

* Recover much of the extraordinary costs of hiring, training and retraining new employees.

Some Basic Terms, Provisions, and Requirements of an OJT

* Can only be considered prior to employment.

* Not approved for high turnover, seasonal occupations or where the occupation depends on commission and/or tips.

* Occupations meet prevailing standards of wages, hours, and conditions of employment for that industry or type of position.

* No displacement or infringement upon promotional, training, or employment of current employees.

* Adequate and well-supervised training by a qualified supervisor.
