Smurfit-Stone finds a buyer for Frenchtown, Montana mill site

Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. has signed a letter of intent with a prospective buyer of its Frenchtown mill site, which ceased operations in January.

Details of the deal won’t be forthcoming for another few weeks, as the buyer has asked for confidentiality, said Ron Megna, assistant general counsel for Smurfit-Stone Container.

"We anticipate that more information will be available to the public in the next couple of weeks," Megna said. "I don’t know for sure what the buyer intends to do with the property, but my understanding is that it is a combination of a few things and that they are still talking to other partners.

"I believe there is an intent to bring some business out there – how many jobs does that mean? I couldn’t tell you."
