Stinky Maps: Missoula company adds smells to maps app

Pick your nose, go ahead.

Well, pick a smell, then name it, and mark it on a map anywhere in the world.

That’s the idea behind Stinky Maps http://www.stinkymaps.com/ , an app for the sense of smell created for the iPhone and iPod Touch by Missoula production company salty snack studios.

So far, folks who follow their noses have sniffed out everything from food to pet fur. The aroma of a chili pepper is wafting somewhere in Kentucky, and the scent of "Magenta’s fur," the fur of an apparent feline, is mapped in Tennessee.

"Apparently, there’s a sewage smell on Mullan Road," said Bruce Tribbensee, who with Toni Matlock developed Stinky Maps and launched it last month.
