Wyoming schools plan to offer high school students associate’s degrees

Wyoming Public Schools is ramping up a new way of preparing all students for college: requiring them to complete some college-level coursework to graduate from high school.

The plan is still taking shape. It would require a waiver from the Michigan Department of Education, but Assistant Superintendent Tom Reeder says he’s hopeful all components are in place within three years to benefit this year’s freshmen class.

"Even with Michigan’s strong new graduation requirements, many students need more than a diploma and a handshake to make the leap to college," Reeder said.
