University of Great Fall’s science experiment pays off with more students
A few years ago, science professors at the University of Great Falls http://www.ugf.edu/ decided to overhaul the way students learned so that more students would take additional science classes and consider majoring in biology or chemistry.
As a result, the number of science majors doubled in the last two years, and the school added two new chemistry professors. As of Tuesday — the day fall semester classes started — more students are enrolled in entry-level biology than ever before, causing faculty members to scramble and readjust classes at the last minute.
It’s a problem science department chairwoman Diane Lund didn’t mind having to deal with.
"We’re growing like crazy, and we’re trying to accommodate the growth," Lund said.
