Montana gets another $90 million in Internet stimulus grants

Another $90 million in federal stimulus funding to expand high-speed Internet is coming Montana’s way, for projects on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation and rural Gallatin County, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced today.

Vilsack unveiled the Montana grants and loans along with awards to 126 projects nationwide, as part of the Obama Administration’s $7 billion program to expand high-speed Internet into unserved and underserved areas.

"The broadband projects announced today will give rural Americans access to the tools they need to attract new businesses, jobs, health care and educational opportunities," he said. "These projects will create jobs building these networks and the completed systems will provide a platform for rural economic growth for years to come."

The two Montana projects announced today are in addition to a pair of projects awarded a month ago, bringing to $111 million the total of broadband stimulus grants and loans in Montana.
