Beartooth Bike Tours sees potential in 14 mile bike cruises down Montana’s Beartooth Highway, one of the top 10 scenic road in the U.S.

Not many businesses can be successful saying, “It’s all downhill from here.”

But that’s the sales pitch for Beartooth Bike Tours http://www.beartoothbiketours.com/ , which in late May started offering bike trips from the state line on the top of the Beartooth Pass downhill to Red Lodge Ales, a 14-mile trip with virtually no peddling, unless you want to.

Doug Bailey and his wife, Suzanna Bailey, started their business at the end of May with snow on the pass, but said the tourists from Iowa and San Diego had a blast. The Louisiana natives married two years ago and Doug told his future wife part of the deal was moving to Red Lodge, where he’d been spending time over a dozen years. The idea for the business came from his previous guiding experience.

“He used to be a horseback guide in Maui, Hawaii, and they have bike tours coming down off the volcano there. He thought, Why shouldn’t we have something like that in Red Lodge?” she said, where the Beartooth Highway is one of the top 10 scenic road in the U.S.
