The Max: Effort begins to bring another wave to downtown Missoula currently hosting the U.S. kayak team trials

Max Lentz may be gone, but the Missoula kayaker who died in West Virginia during a 2007 kayaking accident will not be forgotten.

Efforts are under way to build a new whitewater park, much like Brennan’s Wave, just downstream from the Caras Park feature near Ogren-Allegiance Park.

"The Max Wave" was announced during a Tuesday news conference held by an unusual assembly of bankers, doctors, community officials, kayakers and business owners who gathered at First Interstate Bank to unveil the plan.

If fundraising efforts are successful, The Max Wave will not only be ready by 2015, it will help Missoula land the bid for the 2015 World Freestyle Kayaking Championships, said Trent Baker, a Missoula attorney who helped bird-dog Brennan’s Wave into existence.
