Cablevision: A good fit for Montana?

At first glance, it’s just another big business deal.

But Montana may have plenty at stake in the $1.37 billion agreement that places Bresnan Communications, the company that provides cable television, Internet and phone service to folks in Montana’s larger cities, including Helena, in the hands of Cablevision, the nation’s fifth largest cable-TV player.

Cablevision officials, based in New York, say they see an opportunity to build their customer base and revenue out here in the Wild West. Bresnan, while also based in the Empire State, operates only in Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado and has 308,000 customers spread among the four states. About 44 percent, or more than 135,000, of those customers are in Montana.
