Higher education necessary for future prosperity in Montana

I simply must respond to University of Montana President George Dennison’s letter of Tuesday, June 8, that criticizes reporter Chelsi Moy and some of our faculty for their statements in the May 16 profile of him and his career.

I am certain that Moy had nothing but the best of intentions in terms of being accurate, fair and respectful to the outgoing president. Consideration of the president’s complaints together with the $60,000 oval graduation ceremony, the proliferation of edifices named after multimillionaires all over campus, the president’s retirement package and his prominent picture on the home page of the UM website; all suggest that he and perhaps others in the Montana University System just don’t get it. It’s not about you!
