Sun Valley, Idaho needs to do more, differently

Sun Valley needs to target more marketing toward its second home owners, attract 3,000 more visitors this year and play up its 75th anniversary big time, a marketing committee told more than a 100 people crowded into Sun Valley’s Limelight Room Tuesday night.

Just a 5 percent increase in the number of visitors — or, 3,000 people — would add $6.5 million to the economy over the next year. A 5 percent increase, or $20 a day, in the amount visitors spend would bring in $6.5 million. A 5 percent increase in spending by second homeowners would bring in nearly $10 million. And adding just a hundred full-time residents would add $4 million to the economy, Sun Valley-Ketchum Region Marketing Committee Chair Jim Knight said.
