Missoula Downtown Business Association Working With Railroad To Keep Local Tourism On Track

The Missoula Downtown Business Association and Montana Rockies Rail Tours recently completed a pair of Familiarization (FAM) Tours. The DBA and MRRT hosted San Francisco-based Talbot Tours and Golden Gate Tours.

The tour companies are the largest of their kind in Northern California. Two entourages of 30 Group Leaders each toured Missoula and enjoyed a pair of dinners hosted by the Carousel for Missoula and several local businesses. During the dinners, Carousel Director Theresa Cox presented information on the advantages of bringing their tour groups to Western Montana.

"As always, the downtown Missoula leadership did a wonderful job showcasing the attractions and hospitality of Missoula," Gary Puta, MRRT Marketing Directors said.

"The important part about these two travel organizations is that they were made up of group leaders, not individual travelers," adds Puta, "so these are the folks that will return home and tell all their individual groups that Missoula will be in future group travel plans."

MRRT says that at least 10 group leaders from each organization have already said they would be returning next summer with as many as 500 travelers. They would be expected to overnight in Missoula hotels as well as dine and shop in the downtown area on both Friday and Sunday nights as part of their rail itineraries.

Montana Rockies Rail Tours offers assorted 1-, 2- and 4-day rail-only itineraries between Sandpoint, ID and Livingston, MT. The company plans to rename one of their vintage railcars, "The City of Missoula" later this summer.
