State program to award scholarships to early graduates

Guadalupe Ramirez knows what it’s like to be busy.

The Canyon Ridge High School sophomore is taking a full load of seven courses. On top of that, she’s taking five online courses in subjects like English, history and algebra so she’ll be ready to graduate at the end of her junior year.

For some high school students, graduating early is an attractive alternative to spending four years in high school. Students like Ramirez take on additional courses, study in the summer and sign up for online classes, usually with a desire to get a quicker start on their college education, or simply to move on to the next stage of life.

“I want to finish it, so I do my best,” said Ramirez, who wants to pursue a career in nursing or another medical field.
