‘Smart grid’ makes it to Wyoming – Concept calls for using electricity in cleaner, more efficient ways

Bear Paw Development Corporation is a private non-profit organization created for the purpose of administering programs to help improve regional economic conditions in Hill, Blaine, Liberty, Chouteau and Phillips Counties and the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy's Indian Reservations.

Many experts say that rising energy costs and environmental degradation require a 180-degree shift away from the flick-the-switch-and-forget-it mindset.

But that doesn’t mean going without electricity. It means using electricity in cleaner, more efficient ways, from generation to transmission to end use. That’s the idea behind “smart grid” technologies.

“Consumers need to start viewing energy in a different way. We need a culture change similar to what we saw with the acceptance of the telephone or Internet,” said Katherine Hamilton, president of GridWise Alliance, a Washington, D.C.-based smart grid advocacy group.
