More tech entrepreneurs have been going solo
Jahanzeb Sherwani is one of a new breed of Silicon Valley businesspeople: the lone wolf.
Mr. Sherwani has been operating a company that doesn’t employ any workers, one of the fastest-growing types of businesses in Silicon Valley. Dubbed "nonemployer firms," they typically are sole proprietorships or one- or two-person shops.
In Mr. Sherwani’s case, the 29-year-old operates out of a cubicle in Sunnyvale’s Plug and Play Tech Center, where he runs an iPhone application company called iTeleport. His $25 application, previously known as Jaadu VNC, allows iPhone users to remotely control their personal computer from their iPhone.
Mr. Sherwani formed the company, which is a single-member limited liability corporation, early last year after getting a computer-science doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University and moving to Silicon Valley. "I’m a one-man band," he says.
