Lawmakers urge renewal of R&D tax credit left out of jobs bill

To Silicon Valley and much of corporate America, the federal research-and-development tax credit is as sacrosanct as motherhood. So when it and other tax credit "extenders" were stripped from the Senate’s $15 billion jobs bill this week to hold down costs, a bipartisan effort quickly materialized to restore the break that promotes investments in research and development.
