Montana budget chief proposes $40 million in cuts – Full list available here.

Gov. Brian Schweitzer’s chief budget officer on Tuesday submitted his recommendations http://budget.mt.gov/default.mcpx for trimming general fund spending in an effort to maintain a positive ending balance in the state budget.

The proposal includes more than $40 million in budget cuts from 23 state agencies to help offset falling tax revenues.

Budget analysts estimate that unless cuts are made, most of the $282 million the 61st Legislature set aside in general fund reserves would be depleted by the end of the budget cycle in June, 2011.
