Big Sky heaven: Montana’s Triple Creek Ranch offers back-to-nature getaway

Ask me, and I’ll tell you that a trip to The Triple Creek Ranch http://www.triplecreekranch.com/ is a must-do for anyone who loves the West, Montana’s Bitterroot Mountains and the river of the same where Robert Redford’s A River Runs Through It was filmed.

Wild West shows were all the TV rage when I was growing up in the 1950s and ’60s. Now that I think of it, they occupied a good portion of the limited air-time that the three networks offered back then and oh, the impact they had on me.

The Lone Ranger, Annie Oakley, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Bonanza’s Cartwright boys and Marshall Matt Dillon were just of few characters who kept my fantasy world alive. Then there was that Marlboro man commercial. What a hunk-a-hunk-a smokin’ cowboy he was.

As a result of all of that television viewing, daydreaming about becoming a real-life cowgirl was something that enjoyed a maybe-someday spot in my heart. So it comes as no surprise to me that every now and again, that cowgirl princess inside me peeks her little pig-tailed head out and lets loose with a wild yippee-i-o-ki-yay. Not long ago, she revealed herself once again — this time at The Triple Creek Ranch http://www.triplecreekranch.com/ in Darby, Mont.
