February Sustainable Council Newsletter & Calendar of Events

BC Members & Friends….

As a new decade breaks, we leave behind an era of great change. There was huge upheaval in the climate, in politics and perhaps most notably, the economic crisis of last year left broken communities in its wake. As grim as global news may seem, there is also great hope. We have the knowledge, tools and resources to begin to rebuild our communities with the model of local, living economies of scale.

Our members are more than employers and profit-makers; they are neighbors, community builders and the starting point for social innovation, aligning commerce with the common good and bringing transparency, accountability, and a caring human face to the marketplace.

Here at SBC, we provide the tools and resources needed to educate our members on the most up-to-date green business practices and teach them what makes a sustainable business. We educate the general public through our lecture series, workshops and events and show how being an empowered consumer positively effects us all and why keeping our dollars in our community can prevent us from feeling the pinch recession.

Keep your eyes peeled for our Fall/Winter 2009 Journal. Look for them in member locations around town. If you would like to get your hands on a copy and can’t seem to find one, please email me and I’ll make sure to get one to you!

Yours in Sustainability,
