3G BROADBAND WIRELESS COMES TO MONTANA; U.S. SENATOR CONRAD BURNS HAILS THE NATION’S FIRST MOBILE BROADBAND DEPLOYMENT

Teewinot Wireless Data, IPWireless, and Internet Connect Services Join to Deliver
Cost-Effective, Convenient Wireless Broadband to Businesses and Consumers in Missoula

MISSOULA, Mont.¾June 3, 2002¾Teewinot Wireless Data, IPWireless, and Internet Connect Services (ICS) announced today the launch of the first commercially available 3G wireless broadband service offerings in North America. Teewinot’s new state-of-the-industry network provides convenient and cost-effective high-speed Internet solutions to businesses and homes in the greater Missoula area. The Teewinot Wireless Data network utilizes privately licensed MMDS (multichannel multichannel distribution service) frequencies and third-generation network technology developed by IPWireless, Inc., the leading next-generation broadband wireless company enabling broadband everywhere. The Teewinot network lets customers throughout greater Missoula connect to the Internet over secure, wireless links using the IPWirelessÔ pocket-sized, portable modem. This plug-and-play portable modem with an integrated antenna can be used with a single PC or be connected to a standard router to provide high-speed service to several computers within an office or home.

U.S. Senator Conrad Burns (R-Montana), co-chairman of the Congressional Internet Caucus and ranking member of the Senate Communications Subcommittee, is the guest of honor at today’s special event promoting the first mobile broadband deployment in the country. "Montana takes great pride in being the first state to make this advanced technology available," said Senator Burns. "People in rural states like Montana need to have access like this to ensure their inclusion in the rapidly expanding information age. Providing that technological access to rural areas is a key goal for me, and companies such as Teewinot Wireless Data and Internet Connect Services of Missoula are a fine example of how high-speed access can be brought to rural customers. A solid technological infrastructure such as this is part of the foundation needed to encourage small business growth in our communities."

"We are thrilled to deploy this revolutionary network in Missoula," said Teewinot Wireless Data CEO and founder Gene Twiner. "The demand for affordable high-speed Internet access here far exceeds the services available. With IPWireless and ICS, we are providing a cost-effective solution to many enterprises and residential customers that have had few or no options for high-speed connectivity – until now."

"We are delighted to work with a service provider that shares our vision of delivering the most simple and convenient wireless broadband to businesses and consumers," said Chris Gilbert, CEO, IPWireless. "This announcement validates IPWireless’ commitment to making mobile broadband accessible to everyone, everywhere, including rural areas."

With DSL, dedicated access, and cable modem service, access is limited to specific areas where copper lines or fiber optic cable is in place. Because it’s wireless, the Teewinot network removes that limitation; and unlike other wireless technologies, where performance can be inhibited by buildings and trees, the IPWireless pocket-sized 3G modem works even when there is no clear line of sight to the Teewinot cell towers.

"My job requires me to be out of the office nearly every day. I used to have to go back to the office to check email and work on the Web site, or use very slow dial-up access from the road," said Kevin Van Dort, Webmaster for MoClub.com at Missoula radio station KMSO-FM. "Using the wireless solution over the past few weeks, I’ve been able to stay in touch with my office and clients via email and instant messaging from all over Missoula, with very fast connections from offices, restaurants, and even from my car. It’s amazing!"

"We are excited to offer LightningLine Wireless services built on the Teewinot network," said Internet Connect Services (ICS) President Jeff Smith. "With speeds from 5 to 20 times faster than dial-up, we are confident that we have a package to fit every business need." ICS offers high-speed wireless access bundled with a full suite of business services, including email, web site hosting, dial-up service for travel access, and more.
