‘Governing Montana at the Grass Roots: Local Government Structure, Process and Politics" publication released

Ken Weaver, founder and former director of the Montana State University Local Government Center and Paul Lachapelle, professor and Extension community development specialist at MSU, have released the third edition of "Governing Montana at the Grass Roots: Local Government Structure, Process and Politics." http://www.montana.edu/wwwlgc/publications/index.html

The updated book, based on 2009 legislation, is the first that deals exclusively with municipal and county government in the Big Sky State. The authors examine the architecture, politics and needed reforms of Montana’s local governments within the context of the American federal system and within the constitutional framework of Montana state government.

The book also includes an analysis of the Montana political system as it enters the 21st century and a detailed description of how local politics shape the policy decisions of county and municipal officials.
