Smurfit Stone closure may provide key to Montana’s future

The impending closure of Smurfit-Stone Container’s Frenchtown mill and the outlook for Montana’s wood products has been foremost in everyone’s mind, and Montanans at the U.N. Climate Conference in Denmark believe climate change may be the key to the future.

Keegan Eisenstat is President of ClearSky Climate Solutions in Missoula, a carbon offset company, which helps individuals, organizations, and businesses reduce their climate footprint.

He says there’s a huge demand for forest carbon projects in North America. Keegan suggests what might work in Montana would be generating power from biomass, helping solve our pine beetle problem, and tree thinning, helping control our fires.
