City of Bozeman approves hiring economic development specialist

City of Bozeman commissioners approved the creation of two new city jobs.

The commission decided, on a close 3-2 vote, to hire a grant specialist and an economic development specialist.

Commissioners Eric Bryson and Jeff Rupp opposed creation of the grant-specialist position. Rupp and Mayor Kaaren Jacobson opposed creation of the economic-development job.

Rupp says he voted against both because the city shouldn’t be hiring in a down economy.

The economic development specialist will help local businesses.

The grant specialist is expected to cost about $40,000 a year. The economic development specialist is expected to cost about $55,000 a year.
