Horizons III develops Idaho’s rural leaders, improves infrastructure

Fifteen rural communities in south central and southeastern Idaho are expanding their leadership capacity and working to make their towns inclusive and appealing with help from University of Idaho Extension’s Horizons III http://www.extension.uidaho.edu/horizons/ program, the university said. The 18-month program, a partnership with the Minnesota-based Northwest Area Foundation, has been in place for a year. Two preceding programs served 28 northern Idaho communities from 2003 to 2008.

UI Extension said Horizons III aims to help reduce the poverty that undermines rural Idaho and transform towns into places where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Participating communities must have fewer than 5,000 residents and poverty rates of 10 percent or more to be eligible.
