Montana Career Opportunities – Montana Energy Corps – The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT)

The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) http://ncat.org/ announced today it is accepting applications for 10 Montana Energy Corps AmeriCorps positions. Montana’s new Energy Corps is looking for those interested in energy conservation, national service and making a difference in their community.

"We are excited about this new service program." said Holly Hill, Director of Energy Corps. "This will allow Montanans to get hands-on experience in "green collar" service by promoting and implementing solutions for sustainable energy consumption."

Montana Energy Corps has three goals:

* Provide hands-on energy efficiency and alternative energy assistance to underserved Montana communities and groups

* Create energy awareness through education and outreach activities for low-income groups and communities that are most affected by energy and climate fluctuations

* Work to form energy action networks and organize communities to develop sustainable strategic energy plans

"This is a great opportunity for Montana to partner with AmeriCorps to focus on our energy future." said Jan Lombardi, Director of the Governor’s Office of Community Service.

Energy Corps members will be placed in host organizations in communities throughout the state from October 19, 2009 to August 31, 2010. The application deadline is Friday, October 9.

Applicants must be 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED. Energy Corps members will receive a living allowance of approximately $1100/per month and an AmeriCorps Education Award of $4,725 upon successful completion of service that may be used to pay education costs at qualified institutions of higher education or training or to repay qualified student loans.

Locations and host organizations for Energy Corps positions, include:

Blackfeet Community College (Browning, MT), Chippewa Cree Tribe (Box Elder, MT), District IV HRDC (Havre, MT), Fort Belknap Indian Community Council (Harlem, MT), Montana State University – Northern (Havre, MT), Northern Plains Resource Council (Billings, MT), Opportunity Link (Havre, MT), University of Montana – Western (Dillon, MT), NCAT (Butte, MT)

The Montana Energy Corps AmeriCorps project is an initiative of NCAT in cooperation with the Governor’s Office of Community Service (serve.mt.gov) and the Corporation for National and Community Service (nationalservice.gov).

NCAT is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that aims to improve the lives of economically disadvantaged people by helping individuals and communities adopt technologies that save energy and resources.
