The Rocky Mountain Agile Virtual Enterprises Technical Development Center (RAVE TDC) is sponsoring a seminar by Dr. Gary Butler of BBN Technologies and Mr. William Adams of G5 Technologies. BBN Technologies is an innovative R&D company, providing both advanced research and custom, research-based solutions for a variety of customers such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Electric Boat Corporation, Mercedes Benz and Motorola. The focus of their research includes acoustic technologies, agent based systems, signal and information processing and language processing. In addition, BBN Technologies has been recognized as a worldwide leader in networking technologies ranging from the development of ARPANET (the forerunner of the Internet) to distributed networking and smart sensor networks. G5 Technologies is a nationally recognized leader in the providing Collaborative Commerce solutions and productivity tools to enable businesses to compete in an economy increasingly dominated by networks. G5 Technologies has developed the nation’s first commercially successful virtual enterprise for dynamic business collaboration, the AgileWeb. AgileWeb Inc. is a virtual corporation made up of 20 small to medium sized manufacturing companies in northeastern Pennsylvania that has grown from a DARPA sponsored research project to a $50 million commercial enterprise.

Dr. Gary Butler is a Senior Engineer with BBN Technologies in Arlington, Virginia. His current work at BBN focuses on research activities in software agent-based intelligent sensor networks, evolutionary artificial neural networks, and digital signal denoising using wavelets. Prior to joining BBN, Dr. Butler was a technical advisor in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and a research engineer with the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center. While with the Defense Department, Dr. Butler provided technical oversight for the Air Force’s Helmet Mounted Cueing System Program and the Navy’s Integrated Defense Electronic Countermeasures Program. Dr. Butler received his Ph.D. from Cambridge University where he studied engineering and co-authored several conference papers and a journal article on the application of wavelets to signal analysis.

Mr. William Adams is a nationally recognized authority on the development and management of business-to-business collaboratives, having spearheaded the nation’s first commercially successful agile virtual enterprise, AgileWeb Inc. Expanding upon the success of the AgileWeb, Mr. Adams established G5 Technologies in 1999 to fully develop the patent pending Virtual Corporation Management System (VCMSTM) solution in the internet-based business-to-business e-commerce environment. Earlier in his career, he held various engineering, manufacturing and marketing positions with GE Aerospace and Lockheed Martin in which he was recognized for directing focused initiatives in change management and organizational design. Mr. Adams has received degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering from New York Maritime College and is a graduate of GE’s executive management program. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, Penn State, Emery, and Lehigh University’s Iacocca Institute.
