U. S. Chamber of Commerce Recognizes Montana’s Senator Baucus for His Support of Economic Development

Senator Receives Praise for Record of Economic Development

Next Wednesday, on August 12th, Senator Max Baucus will receive the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Spirit of Enterprise award in recognition and appreciation of his steady support of American business and free enterprise in the 2008 session of Congress.

“This award recognizes the support that Senator Baucus gives to the U.S. Chamber’s pro-jobs, and pro-economic growth agenda,” said Don Sterhan, Montana’s representative on the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber.

The Spirit of Enterprise Award is presented by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to members of Congress who voted in support of the Chamber’s position on legislation a minimum of 70 percent of the time during the previous session. The award signifies the Chamber’s appreciation of those members by identifying individual senators and representatives as strong supporters of free enterprise in America. The award is not an endorsement of any candidacy for political office, but a recognition of a lawmaker’s work. Baucus received a 75% score from the U.S. Chamber in 2008.

“Montana is lucky to have Senator Baucus representing the state and providing leadership on a number of issues,” said Webb Brown, President/CEO of the Montana Chamber of Commerce, “He supports bills that help the private sector create good-paying jobs and allow businesses to thrive.”

**Senator Baucus will receive the award at a ceremony at the Great Falls Holiday Inn at 12:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 12th, immediately preceding the Mid-Year Update of the Economic Outlook Series.**
