Dozens apply for Montana State University president job

The committee searching for a new president for Montana State University http://www.montana.edu/ meets today in Bozeman to start going over candidates’ applications, now that the deadline has passed and several dozen people have applied.

“There’s a good, solid, robust pool of applicants,” Clayton Christian, a member of the Montana Board of Regents and chair of the search committee, said Wednesday, the deadline to apply.

One issue the regents have discussed but taken no action on is whether to raise the MSU president’s pay, $205,050. Though high by Montana standards, it’s low compared to university presidents’ pay in neighboring states n Idaho, Wyoming and the Dakotas. It’s the lowest in the nation among universities granting Ph.D.s and conducting substantial research.
