Progress made for payback from Sustainable Systems LLC to farmers who sold them their crops

Farmers received some much appreciated news Thursday evening from officials in the Montana Department of Agriculture as many got their questions answered.

Last week a group of about 20 farmers gathered at the Culbertson High School cafeteria to learn about their second payment for their crops from Sustainable Systems LLC, the Missoula-based renewable fuels company that produced cooking oil from safflower, is on the way. The company has been in hot water for failing to pay more than $1.2 million to 40 farmers in Montana and North Dakota who delivered 2008 safflower crops.
