Blinded by opportunity

A funny thing happened to Rich Pope as he completed his nursing degree at Montana State University in 2003. There he was, preparing for a promising career in health care, and suddenly the entrepreneur bug bit him.

Pope worked as an installer and salesman for Budget Blinds in Bozeman, and later in Billings, while he was completing his nursing degree. During his senior year, Clint May, the owner of Budget Blinds franchises in Billings and Bozeman, offered to sell him the Billings franchise.

After consulting with family and friends, Pope arranged for financing and decided to give it a whirl. Here, he talks about the risks and rewards of being an entrepreneur.
