Malta, Montana perseveres
Many small towns in eastern Montana are fighting to remain vital, with aging populations, shrinking school enrollments and fewer jobs to keep high school graduates in the area.
Malta http://www.maltachamber.com/, perched on the Hi-Line equidistant from Great Falls, Billings and Williston, N.D., is successfully challenging some of those issues.
One new business plans to turn wool into "green" home insulation while a second business is building Ready To Move houses. Another is converting crushed canola seed into lubricants.
