Oregon’s state Board of Education voted to require job experiences and skills
for high school graduation effective in 2007.

The new requirements mean that high school students will have to go through
most of the steps to earn a Certificate of Advanced Mastery (CAM), Oregon’s
skill-based certificate that assists students’ transition from high school to
work and post-secondary education. Specifically, Oregon high school
students will have to:

Develop an education plan in grades 7-12 that helps them meet their
post-high school goals
Build a portfolio of demonstrated competencies
Demonstrate career-related knowledge in personal management,
problem solving, communication, teamwork, employment foundations,
and career development
Participate in career-related learning experiences

Only Delaware, Washington, and Minnesota have similar high school
graduation requirements.
