Stimulus session targets Montana wood products companies

A state Commerce Department official on Tuesday urged Ravalli County commissioners and wood products company owners to tap a new federal and state loan program offering $11.3 million in stimulus funds to the ailing industry.

The Montana Distressed Wood Products Industry Recovery and Stabilization Program http://recovery.mt.gov/commerce/wpirs/default.mcpx is intended to help retain and create permanent, year-round jobs in sawmills, plywood plants, wood chip processors and other firms involved in wood products.

The funds, which are available to both large companies and mom-and-pop operations, are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
