A Barbarian at the Gate: East is East; West is Best (and that means Montana!)

We all know life out West is more free. But when I moved from New York City to Montana, I discovered that life out West is literally more free. In Montana, people actually give things away. Things aren’t free in New York; they’re extra.

Take pop, or as New Yorkers call it, soda. A soda refill in N.Y. is an extra $2.25, thank you. And don’t forget the 8 percent sales tax, so make that $2.43.

The only free refill is coffee, and even then, they don’t exactly encourage a second or third cup. No one begrudges you the coffee, but eight people are waiting for your table so can you hurry up and leave already?
