Description

The mission of the Local Government Center, as set forth in Montana state law, is to "strengthen the capacities of Montana’s local governmental units to deliver essential services efficiently and to provide training, technical assistance, and research to local officials." MSU Extension community development program provides resources and expertise to help Montana’s communities envision, create and sustain successful economic, social and environmental development efforts.

In addition to managing daily operations and resources of the Local Government Center and Extension Community Development Office, this position assists the Director and the Community Development Specialist with formulating policies, planning and developing short- and long-term goals; and developing and implementing a business plan for the Center and CD Office. The person in this position assists by working in a team environment and receiving input from Clerks throughout the state to create educational objectives, outcomes and course descriptions, repackaging curriculum, developing FAQs and handouts, and expanding curriculum presented and developed. Specific duties include: developing agendas and presentation topics for various clinics and conferences; evaluating outcomes; negotiating and contracting with presenters; coordinating facilities, developing marketing materials, maintaining participant lists, budgeting appropriately for conferences and meetings, and acting as liaison with all involved to ensure successful conferences/meetings/trainings/clinics; researching grants; designing and creating newsletters, brochures, posters, e-newsletters and websites; providing technical assistance for the databases and warehouses of information.

Required
Qualifications

1.

A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

2.

Demonstrated written communication skills.

3.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to track and prioritize complex administrative tasks.

4.

Demonstrated experience developing and managing budgets.

5.

Excellent computer skills including expertise with Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and web editing software.

Preferred
Qualifications

1.

Experience relating to local government operation or community development.

2.

Experience coordinating large events/conferences/meetings.

3.

Experience negotiating contracts for services.

4.

Experience using SCT Banner software.

5.

Experience developing and managing complex databases.
