Idaho exports to foreign countries decline

Idaho exports to foreign countries declined 38 percent in the first three months of this year compared with the first quarter of 2008.

The U.S. Census Bureau’s Foreign Trade Division said Idaho’s sales fell to a four-year low of $791 million at the start of 2009 compared with $1.28 billion at the start of 2008.

State officials said a sharp decline in the sale of high-tech goods such as computer chips was the most significant factor.
