The federal Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs offer more than $2 billion dollars annually to support the research and development of technology by small businesses across the nation. Currently 11 federal agencies and their departments send out solicitations for their particular needs, independently and all at different times of the year. SBIR-STTR funding is an excellent source of early stage capital that doesn’t require equity participation.
