Byrnes was born down the road at Anaconda because St. James wouldn’t allow men in the delivery room in 1972.

"My mom was kind of a hippie," she said. "And she wanted her husband in the room." Since that debut just 25 miles west, Byrnes been in Butte ever since, save a short semester at Montana State.

"This is my town," she said. "And I want to make it a healthy community — with good neighborhoods and a diversified economy." Byrnes, 36, is the director of the Butte-Silver Bow community development program http://www.buildingbutte.com/ .

In that capacity, she sits on a number of boards, including the Urban Revitalization Agency, East Butte Revitalization and Rehabilitation Agency, Tax Increment Financing Industrial District and the Urban Forestry Board. She also serves on the boards of Headwaters RC&D, the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber Executive groups.
