Wyoming Worm developer avoids prison by helping feds

A Cheyenne man who developed software that allowed him to take over thousands of computers avoided prison Tuesday because he assisted the federal government after his arrest.

Without going into detail, U.S. District Judge William F. Downes noted Jason Milmont’s work for the government when he sentenced the 20-year-old to five years of supervised probation and a year of home confinement. The judge said Milmont was able to "unravel computer questions" that had stumped professors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

"You have an amazing gift and could help millions of people," the judge said.
