Bootstrap Montana Loan Program aiming to boost small entrepreneurs

Deborah Poole is well-skilled at making the handcrafted albums and boxes inspired by traditional bookbinding techniques from Europe and Japan for her business, Magpie Design.

But she knew she needed some help finding markets for her craft.

She attended two high-end art shows Colorado, where someone suggested that she display her work at The Museum Store Association Expo in Phoenix. "It’s a trade show where shops that are located inside of museums shop for inventory," Poole said.

However, with a tiny company and a product that is somewhat of a unique concept, Poole needed some help to reach that point.

She received a grant to help cover the cost to attend the trade show from the Montana Department of Commerce, and she received a no-interest loan from the Bootstrap Montana Loan Program http://www.bootstrapmontana.org/description.html .
