Ravalli County afterschool program facing funding cuts. "Keystone to Discovery"

Ria Overholt is hoping her students won’t have to break open their piggy banks to keep the Keystone to Discovery program running in its full glory.

But with the popular afterschool program’s funding dropping by 40 percent starting in July, the Keystone program director said many of her students’ parents have been trying to get creative to make up the difference.

“It’s a great program and it definitely helps the community in the sense that you don’t have a bunch of latch key kids hanging around playing Xbox ,” said Keystone parent Maureen Presswood, who has her son Riley attending Keystone at least twice a week when nobody will be home after school. “Even though my husband is actually home today, Riley wanted to go because he didn’t want to miss archery.”

So, Presswood said she was hopeful that the program would continue undiminished.
