Alberta to unveil nuclear power blueprint

Debate may be rendered moot by downturn

The provincial government will roll out a long-awaited nuclear power report today, and unveil plans to survey Albertans on whether the province should go atomic.

But the chairman of the ex-pert panel, former federal Tory MP Harvie Andre, suggested the debate over whether Alberta should open its doors to multibillion-dollar nuclear power projects has been over-taken by a sharp economic downturn that imperils any number of major projects.
