Entrepreneurs of the future at BSU

Teams of would-be entrepreneurs will converge on the Boise State University campus and
Boise Depot May 1 to 3 for what organizers expect to be the first annual Northwest Venture
Championship — a student competition for the best new technology-based business plan.

“We want to encourage people to create their own businesses in Boise and throughout the
state,” said Kent Neupert, international business professor and contest organizer.

Neupert said the Treasure Valley is a natural location for the competition because of its rich
history of entrepreneurship, evidenced by Hewlett Packard´s printer division and Micron,
among others.

Nine to 12 teams from universities in Idaho, Montana, Washington, Utah, Canada and Mexico
will compete for more than $1,500 in prize money donated by the Idaho National Engineering
and Environmental Laboratory and the Inland Northwest Research Alliance. An educational
component of the event will allow budding entrepreneurs to witness presentations from real
entrepreneurs asking for venture capital funding.
