Montana’s energy future must change, speakers tell City Club Missoula

Montana’s energy future must change, and that could mean good things for its residents, according to a panel of City Club Missoula http://www.cityclubmissoula.org speakers.

NorthWestern Energy president Bob Rowe agreed with state Public Service Commissioner Gail Gutsche that energy conservation and efficiency are gaining priority in Montana. And growth of alternative energy sectors such as wind and solar power would benefit the state’s energy customers and its economy.

Meanwhile, Natural Resources Defense Council representative Chuck Magraw warned that protecting the planet’s climate is becoming a matter of national security, and conservation and efficiency efforts are some of the cheapest ways to enhance that protection. Failure to restrain our pollution and greenhouse gas output will hurt both the economy and environment, he said.
