Montana Governor Schweitzer unveils stimulus spending proposals

Gov. Brian Schweitzer on Friday outlined his plan for spending some $800 million in federal stimulus money, including a tuition freeze at state colleges and $10 million to bolster Montana’s struggling timber industry.

The Democratic governor, flanked by leading Democratic lawmakers at a Capitol news conference, also said he’d like the Legislature to put the spending bill on a fast track and get it approved by the first week of April.

“Virtually every community of Montana will see benefits,” Schweitzer said. “Virtually every community in Montana will be put back to work.”
