Wind energy training program planned in Vancouver, Washington

Vancouver-based institute could enroll 40 students by July

Vancouver could become a wind energy training hub, eventually graduating 500 technicians from the newly created Northwest Renewable Energy Institute, under plans a local education entrepreneur announced Wednesday.

The institute expects to become accredited this spring. It will operate as a subsidiary of the International Air and Hospitality Academy, said Arch Miller, 70, who co-founded the air program in 1979 and remains chairman of the business. A first cohort of 40 students could enroll in July, he said.
